Job Title: Prep Cook

Reports to: Gwendolyn Cox

Job Summary: Prep food according to supervisor’s instructions following approved procedures ensuring high
levels of service, quality, and efficiency. This position also ensures the kitchen area is
maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: (Additional duties may be assigned)

  • Assist the head chef by washing, peeling, and cutting various foods such as fruits and vegetables to prepare for cooking or serving.
  • Uphold the highest standards for food sanitation and quality.
  • Clean cooking equipment, counters, floors, tables, and other areas of food distribution in compliance with established sanitation and health standards.
  • Ensure kitchen equipment and appliances are ready for use.
  • Maintain a clean and hygienic work environment at all times.
  • Prepare salads, bread, salad dressings, and sauces.
  • Gather food ingredients from the refrigerator or freezer as required by the chef.
  • Ensure food is stored away properly when not in use.
  • Chop & prep all necessary ingredients.
  •  Bussing any and all tables & areas of the property during entire shift.

Supervisory Responsibilities: The prep cook does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Qualification Standards:

  • Experience working as a prep cook in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong multitasking and organizational skills
  • Good understanding of ingredients, recipes, kitchen safety, and hygiene
  • Knowledge of food safety and applicable health department regulations
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Familiar with general kitchen equipment and appliances
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and efficiently
  • Ability to perform well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Physically able to stand and move around for long periods of time
  • Available during the week
  • Seasonal position, April – December

Physical, Mental and Visual Demand:

    • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to stand for long periods of time, walk, talk, hear, perform repetitive hand motion, finger, grasp, handle, feel, push, pull, reach, crouch, kneel, crawl, bend.
    • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
    • Light mental and visual application is required for performing work where there is some variety, but actions taken and decisions made are limited to a few possibilities. Work requires some coordination with others. Setting-up, regulating, and adjusting simple machines or processes.

    Environmental Conditions: The employee is frequently exposed to noise, hot water, potentially slippery floors, garbage disposals, and cleaning chemicals. Exposed to unpleasant tasks when handling garbage. Work requires following health and sanitation standards and includes the use of protective gloves and/or a hair net.
